9:58 pm - About the Balrog Bash

Hey, who's going to the Balrog Bash

My kidling and I have been to every Ringcon, and the Ringcon dance is our favorite event of the year. We were sad, therefore, that there isn't going to be a Ringcon this Spring, but... hey, the Balrog Bash is happening instead! Woo hoo! We'll be there with bells on!

.... but then I saw that cute little notice: "Minors welcome until 10 PM!". Uh- oh. Unacceptable.

It's a 2-hour drive to Tacoma from here. There's no way in Hell I'm going to pay $20.00 for tickets, make that drive, then have to leave the dance before it's even half-over just because some idiot decided to impose an arbitrary curfew on teenagers. If I pay full price for my kid to attend a dance with me, she's going to attend the whole thing or I will know the reason why.

leannan_sidhe wrote: "From the mouths of Phil and Heather... Its the owner's rule. Not only that, but from what I understand, this came as a suprise to pretty much everyone, after everthing was set. Employees there said all ages, recently the owner dropped the "until 10pm" thing.

Is completely the brewery. I would suggest contacting them (the brewery) and complaining... "

Right, so that's what I've done, and I ask that everyone else who thinks this is a stupid and discriminatory rule do the same. The e-mail addy is: harmon@harmonbrewing.com. Thanks!

Here's my letterCollapse )

8:39 am - From James the Obscure about Holly and Ivy

I've got a Karaoke machine and 2 mics to start
with. I'll bring some tapes. I figure that what we start with what we have and go from there.

I'm due to teach a class in [Getting Started in
Storytelling]. Other than that, I'm thinking that
we'll pick a time and do stories plus keep a list of
other contributions. If the Bardic Alliance is in
attendance, mayhap we could agree on the performance
list. Anyway, by recording several times plus at
feast time, we should have a fair composite of The
Bards of Druim Doineann. Be nice to be able to convert whatever we get into a finished CD format and distribute it.

That's not an especially detailed lesson plan, but
perhaps we can mold it into a composite completeness.

Can you send this out thru the Alliance?
Any comments?

James the Obscure

6:40 pm - Rooms at RingCon

Okay, who is going to RingCon?

Have you already made your hotel reservations?

If you have, do you have space for more people?

If you haven't, are you looking for people who've got room to share?

Please post it here, so we can make sure everybody's got a place to be before it's too late.

(Note: both my room and my car are already full; I regret to say that I can't offer a ride or crash-space to anyone else.)

1:11 pm - spaces for sept crown

ok so i sent a message to a man named cedric and groveled my asss offf... .and got reservations for hous leannan, clan darkmountain, and the bardic alliance, all under the name of darkmountain. this is what he sent back to me.. (and there are only five places for tents)

Well lets see.  Reservations ended over a week ago.  it is 2 days to the
event.  I got woke up to a neighbor building a  fence with power tools.
IT's a great day.

I appreciate your understanding it is late in the game to get a spot.  I do
happen to have the exact spot you were asking for.  I will reserve it under
Clan Darkmountain.  I hope this works well. .

Thank you

11:20 am - Stolen from the Ren Faire (X-posted everywhere)

Have you seen these marionettes?

On Saturday night, Aug. 7, six marionettes were stolen from Gypsy Realm Productions at the Washington Renaissance Fantasy Faire in Gig Harbor, WA.

Blue Fairy, about 18"-24", long nose, long ears, all in blue - one-of-a-kind sculpture, neoprene head. Her strings were cut by the thieves, so she might be marketed as a doll.

Jester Rabbit, over 3' tall tan, beige and white plush bunny un a yellow-and-red jester outfit with jester slippers.

Peasant Rabbit, about the same size as the Jester, in a scarf, bodice and skirt.

Fairy Princess, 2'-3' tall, in purple, "real"-type eyes, elf ears, vinyl head.

Princess, about 3', vinyl doll head, blue or pink costume, sleeves go past hands.

King/Prince, the tallest marionette (over 3'), with a papier-mache gourd head, a crown, a garish blue & gold paisley outfit.

These beautiful marionettes are all hand-made, and their maker is as heartbroken as if she'd lost her children, not to mention the fact that her show is her primary source of income. No questions will be asked if whoever took them just returns them.

They could be marketed on e-bay under toys, dolls, marionettes, puppets or string puppets. They could turn up at a Ren Faire, SCA event, street fair, flea market or yard sale. If you see them, or you have any information, please contact:

Thank you! Please pass the word!

9:33 am - Ahoy Mateys (X Post)

As June Faire Draws Closer, plans are beginning to come together. I have secured the services of a Galley Master for the weekend, who will be asking 2 small favors. 1) Help pay for food, and 2) Help with clean up. What do you get out of this? Hot Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and Hot Dinner on Friday and Saturday, Plus there will be grab and go snacks for lunch, and random bits for random hungers. How much does all this cost? Until we know how many we are feeding, we can't set a price on the weekend. I am going to try to keep cost under $20 (eat for a whole weekend on $20, not too bad a deal if you ask me.) with Childern under 5 eating however much they eat for free.

So, here is what I need, I need everyone who would like to eat from the Galley of the Hawk of the Night, let me know ASAP!!!

Now, the next thing I need: Space requirements. How many tents are you bringing? What size are they? Is anyone bringing a day shade? Is anyone bringing a firepit? Can someone get hold of Dark Mountain and talk to them about whether they want to camp with the alliance and whether they want to Kitchen with the ship, and how much space they need and all of that. Here is what I believe so far:

Camping with me.

Day tripping Saturday

umm...Michelle's Husband
Michelle's Son
Dark Moutain and Co.

Not sure if they are camping with me or not, for whatever reason.

Not camping with me.

(status under your name, in case you got confused)

I need to know ASAP if your status has changed, and what it has changed to.

I need all this info ASAP if we want a stress free event!

7:37 pm - Events

I don't know if anyone else is thinking about the SCA outdoor event season starting up next month, but I am.
I would just like to know where the Bardic encampment is going to be so that I can join a few fires but be sure to camp far enough away. (I know that you don't need to hear a crying baby in the middle of the night when you need your sleep for work Leannan_Sidhe.)
So as the season progresses and I see what events all are planning on I will be sure to look for you at the event.

2:29 am - Surprise guest at RingCon!

Woo hoo, check it out - I got this e-mail today from Ron Cleveland, the organizer of RingCon

"We have acquired another actor from the movie to take part in RingCon in March. Unfortunely since part of the reason this person is coming is to be a complete surprise to Bernard Hill (King Theoden), we can not announce the name of that person. Simply stated we have a surprise guest for Saturday. An no, it won't do any good to try and pry the name out of me as I promised to not tell anyone who it is. You will have to come and see who it is. So please pass the word."
